Personal Life
Raphael Sanzio was born on April.6, 1483 and was born in Urbino, Italy. Raphael’s full name is Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino. When he was born Urbino was a cultural centre that supported art. Raphael’s dad was Giovanni Santi and was a painter for the duke of Urbino, Federigo da Montefeltro. Raphael’s dad taught him basic painting skills and exposed him to a humanistic philosophy. When Raphael was 11 years old, his father died. Afterwards, he took over his father’s workshop and soon he surpassed his father and kept on getting better and better at art. As a teen, Raphael painted for church of San Nicola. after a few years Raphael was known as one of the finest painters in Urbino, Italy and a master painter known as Pietro Van Punci, invited Raphael to be his apprentice in Perugia, in the Umbria region in Italy. This apprenticeship lasted 4 years letting Raphael gain more knowledge and hands-on experience with art. Afterwards, Raphael moved to so many different places like Rome and even ended up being taught by the great Michelangelo! Sadly, on April.6,1520, when Raphael was only 37, he died of an uknown acute illness.
Acomplishments
Did you know that Raphael is one of the most famous artists from the renaissance?Raphael was a very good artist and extremely successful that lived during the renaissance. He was a magnificent artist, who was also known as “The Prince of Painters”. Raphael had a good reputation but he had a bit of a temper. He was also thought to be one of the finest painters in Urbino, Italy. Raphael’s reputation was so good, that even Pope Julius II hired him to paint some portraits. Raphael had such a good reputation that he changed what people thought of The Holy Madonna.
Did you know that The School of Athens was made by Raphael when he was only in his late 20’s? This magnificent piece of art was made for Pope Julius II. The School of Athens was made between 1509 and 1510. This amazing art piece was made as a decoration for the rooms we now know as the Stanze di Raffaello, in the Apostolic Palace which is in the Vatican. In this art piece, there are two certain people who are: Plato and Aristotle. Plato is shown old, grey, and wise looking as Aristotle is shown handsome, in mature manhood, and dressed in gold. Some figures are certain as others have been hypothetical (thought to be different people). Some of the possible people are: Pythagoras, Raphael, Apelles, Ptolemy and many others.
Raphael's Worldview
It is because of Raphael's knowledge, that he had success when he wanted to be an artist. If he did not have the knowledge of painting, he would not have been able to succeed and have people like him. If he did not have the knowledge on which paint bruch he should use than he would end up srewing up in the end.
Inspirations
Raphael was inspired by his dad mainly, because his father was a painter for the Duke of Urbino, since he looked up to him, he wanted to be just like him. There were also many other local painters, who inspired Raphael sanzio with their work.
